I have included a link back to “frontier ruminations” blog that inspired this next train of thought.

In the political world we often hear that we have to get “our people” elected. It is like it is a big game. Us vs. Them – SPY vs. SPY. So it goes that if we are a Republican then it is our “duty” to show “loyalty” to the “party” and work to elect them simply because they are a Republican – or for some of you a Democrat or Libertarian etc……

The next analogy is derived from the New Testament Luke 14-27 – in these versus Jesus is talking to a large crowd who wish to follow him and in one of his analogies says to them “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.” – meaning that if a follower is to be his disciple he need retain the flavor of the spirit of that which is God. Without it he is not a disciple.

When I heard this I thought instantly of the internals of the political process. The Republican party has a desire to have the most people or a bigger pile of salt. They care not that the salt be flavorless, they care only that the pile of salt be big. Well guess what. To the end that they achieve this they will result in demise. As was said in the verse, “It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out” – What would you do with a flavorless pile of salt. If you place it on the ground (in Congress) it will surely prevent growth in the soil. If you throw on a pile of manure (fertilizer) you render even crap unusable. It is time we return to testing the salt of those we wish to elect. If we do not we end up with further contamination of the system.
