Restore the Covenant

Congress should veto Obama’s war.

God help us all – Back on June 6th we started talking about the slow incremental creep towards a Syrian military strike. ( http://nomomrniceguy.com/2013/06/06/syria-update/) And here we are nearing September and guess what. WAR.

I have a few questions to ask with personality and political sides removed so here goes:

1. Should Congress not get a say in a war action ?

Under Obama’s own standard , a threat could justify a military response without direct congressional authorization. Carney was asked about a 2007 interview Obama had with the Boston Globe when the then-presidential candidate said, “The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

So I guess the question that has to be asked is what is that threat ? And the answer is ? –> “As I made clear, it is clearly in the United States’ national security interest that that norm be maintained because the consequences of that standard dissolving are enormous and very detrimental to the United States and very detrimental to the international community, to our allies and partners in the region, and the world at large,” Carney said Tuesday.

Not much of an answer really. That is Washington Double speak

2. How does Syria have immediate or even long term implications for the security of America?

The collapse of Syria some argue will cause a terrorist breeding ground equal to that in Afghanistan and Pakistan prior to 9-11. With Jordan and Turkey as cozy neighbors, it would place pressure on both of these country’s. Jordan is already experiencing massive refugee pressure from the conflict and is housing what some accounts say is nearing 200,000 refugees in camps. The pressure for Jordan to turn Islamist and not be as Western as it is has become increasingly more apparent.

Turkey is the gateway to Europe folks. As soon as Syria falls Turkey will be the next big target. There are already signs of insurgency in Turkey and instability has begun growing there.

Greece and now Italy are beginning to house refuges both from Syria and Egypt. So I guess I have to ask, why then would we want to topple Assad ? If he goes and the “bad guys” move in, how is it in our Nations Interest to bomb Syria again ?

3. Is it not a bit arrogant to do what we are doing without International Support and hearings and fact finding and drawn out investigations?

President Barack Obama may take action on Syria without explicit congressional approval because seeking authorization from U.S. lawmakers may take too long and they may say “no,” NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd said Tuesday.

He explained that the president may choose to avoid Congress over Syria because “isolationists” in both the Democratic and Republican parties would block the White House’s attempt to intervene in the war torn country.

So what is the purpose of a U.S. attack? Mr. Carney elaborated that it’s “about responding to [a] clear violation of an international standard that prohibits the use of chemical weapons.” He added that the U.S. had a national security interest that Assad’s use of chemical weapons “not go unanswered.” This is another way of saying that the attacks are primarily about making a political statement, and vindicating President Obama’s ill-considered promise of “consequences,” rather than materially degrading Assad’s ability to continue to wage war against his own people.

It should go without saying that the principal purpose of a military strike is to have a military effect. Political statements can always be delivered politically, and U.S. airmen should not be put in harm’s way to deliver what amounts to an extremely loud diplomatic demarche. That’s especially so with a “do something” strike that is, in fact, deliberately calibrated to do very little.

4.Can someone at least prove that it was the Regime that used the gas ?

“How can the government use chemical weapons, or any other weapons of mass destruction, in an area where its troops are situated?” Assad asked. “This is not logical.” Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also slamming the West for blaming the Syrian government without backing up the claims with concrete evidence. “Washington, London and Paris have officially stated they have irrefutable proof that the Syrian authorities are guilty [of the chemical attack], but they cannot present this proof,” Lavrov said on Friday according to the Voice of Russia.

5. Was Isaiah right ?

6. When Iran, China and Russia say a strike will mean turmoil, do they mean Israel is going to be brought in to this by them?

and this one too http://freebeacon.com/iranian-official-israel-to-be-first-victim-of-u-s-attack-on-syria/

A senior Syrian military official says if the U.S. or a coalition of nations attacks Syrian government forces, Syria and its allies will launch an immediate attack on Israel.

“If Damascus comes under attack, Tel Aviv will be targeted too and a full-scale war against Syria will actually issue a license for attacking Israel,” said the Syrian army official who spoke to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency on condition of anonymity.

“We are rest assured that if Syria is attacked, Israel will also be set on fire and such an attack will, in turn, engage Syria’s neighbors,” he said in the Tuesday interview.

9. If only 9% of the American people say this is a good idea, what are the rest of us missing ?

10. Is this the door opening to a caliphate ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caliphate

Well there are ten off the top of my head. Why are we getting involved ? Ask yourself that question honestly. And answer it honestly. Does this make sense to anyone ? For the past 10 plus years we have been doing all we can to collapse the Middle East in on itself and we seem to be doing all we can to run our country into a big dark hole. What the hell is going on? This is not going to end well folks.

Put on those seat belts and hang on – It is about to get real bumpy real fast !
