A Prayer for Freedom

For a free man the ultimate act of freedom is to break the chains that bind him. And those chains are not physical and won’t be found binding his wrists or ankles, but rather they are imposed upon his mind and life. Freedom, true freedom, can only begin when he is willing to start down the path of personal sovereignty and total personal accountability.

This has been spoken of in a previous post.

No one rain drop is responsible for the flood, yet it is the rain that creates the flood. Like a rain drop it is incumbent upon each man to remain true to his nature. There are certain unalienable rights he poses by birth right. Man is born into a system of natural law

Those most well known are life, liberty and the pursuit of property, where property is now known as happiness. Another is the natural fact that all men through their birth have equal opportunity to succeed in their life journey. It is the choices they make along the way, and the freedom they enjoy, that determine the outcome. It is equally true too that all men face obstacle in their life and must overcome to succeed.

So, once a man is to understand how free he is, he can then understand that there is a government that has greatly reduced his choices. It is the same government that has lost sight of its charter and has become tyrannical in its actions.

In order for that same man to be a truly free man, he must be unbound by “all” that shackles him. Do not confuse duty with slavery or shackles with choice. It is not a family or spouse, or work, all of which was made by choice that shackles a man. It is those things that other men hold over a man that shackles him the most.

In order to live as a free man, a man must first be honest with himself. For it is when a man is honest with oneself that he is then able to be honest with another. A free man is dependent upon himself and not another man or government. So it is then that a free man is able to identify when his liberty has been infringed upon and protect it. If a man is dependent upon another then he has diminished his liberty and therefore is less capable of defending it. It is for this reason that it is incumbent upon us to honestly ask ourselves to what extent we are dependent and then work to remove those dependencies no matter how daunting it may be. For it is the closer to self-sufficiency one gets that brings us closer to liberty.

Why is it that we as a people consent to things that impede our freedom? It is certain that we have allowed the NSA, IRS, Congress, EPA, DHHS, POTUS (and) …… to mandate regulatory restrictions upon our persons and thus greatly limit our personal freedom.

How is it that we have allowed those we have elected of supposed free will to govern in a way that perpetuates these restrictions? How do we remove ourselves from these shackles of oppression and tyranny?

I am advocating for a rapid return to Governance by will. No, will is not short for William or Bill. Will is that energy that allows us to make decisions for ourselves based upon outcome. We are born with a free will. When the forces that surround us exercise strength so great that it diminishes our ability to exercise that free will then the force must be removed. It limits a man’s freedom and must be overcome.

So, do we act in the same way the early Americans did and take up arms against our government? A little early in that stage but that is not to say it could not or should not happen at a point forward should oppression continue or increase. There is an easier and equally effective road to travel to attain this goal.

A man must remove those impediments to his freedom in order to be a free man. And if a free man cannot remove that barrier individually, then he should do so as a collection of free men. If each free man is to govern himself and his personal territory as a free thinking, free acting and responsible citizen, then is when we may begin to overcome our barriers and return us to a Nation of freedom and liberty for all. Beware though, with maximum freedom there comes a maximum self-responsibility. Responsibility is something a real man knows well.

When each man lives as an example of freedom and advocates to others of their right to be equally as free, then we begin to build a collective of ideas and principles based upon the individual. This is much like how our nation came to be in existence. This is of course short of the uprising.

A free man should in no way allow himself to be told that he is an individual in a collective. That then would be to say that the collective is the dominant keeper. No, let it be said that a free man is individual amongst other individuals that collectively demonstrate the will of the people. Each man must act individually as an individual doing what he can individually accomplish to awaken others, defeat the spirit of progressivism and restore freedom. And as individuals we will create a great collection of individuals not an individual collective.

Free men have a duty and obligation to uphold this value. Free men are generationally predetermined to be the keepers of the “Sacred Fire of Liberty”. A free man must live his life as an example to other men. By doing so he individually begins to recreate the awareness of a foundational and free society.

It is incumbent upon and must be demanded of our elected, that we return to the principle of governing to the will. It is equally incumbent upon all men to elect representatives that share this understanding and way of life.

While a man advocates representation by free will, as a responsible citizen he must advocate free will in his own life as well in order to support his demand of another. That is to say that a free man should be willing to live that which he advocates.

If a man is honest with himself and others and he works to promote the common welfare of a family, community and a nation which by its very design is there to secure his ability to live of free will, then and only then can he say he has upheld the torch of liberty that has been passed to him by his forefathers.

A free man must be of a spirit willing; he must lead through example and begin to retake his community through his example and living leadership. A free man does not govern by edict or proclamation. He governs by action. He should govern by will.

As a people, we must begin to rekindle the brightness that beamed from this great Nation.  A man must go beyond words and begin to take action, actions that are in keeping with Constitutional principle. Actions that are in keeping with Gods will. As a nation we must regain our personal freedom by becoming once again free men in our own lives.

No one rain drop is responsible for the flood, yet it is the rain that creates the flood. Nor has one voice been responsible for a revolution of ideas. We must as free men act as a drop of rain so that we may collectively flood our world with, love, freedom and Gods will.

A Prayer for Freedom

Dear Heavenly Father, Let us shed ourselves of debt and fear. Let us shed our personal shackles that keep us from our freedom. Let us lead by example those around us in a way that is true to American spirit and true to you God. Let us not be afraid to articulate why an action of government is a shackle. Let us do so with sincerity and not spite. Let us do so in a way that teaches, so others may learn too. Above all, let us be honest to ourselves and to you God. Let us be willing to learn so that we may begin to reclaim our rightful positions as free men in a free nation.

Amen

I sent the following article and links to close friends and family this morning. The article brought tears to my heart. It ripped my soul wide open and left me with a cold wind blowing through the part of me that knows reality but chooses sometimes to buffer my being from it.

This story is complex. It is sad and makes me angry as hell. It makes me want to do something. I have a couple of ideas but acting or finding a call to action is a whole other matter. Words seem easier sometimes and I fear that the lack of action is symptomatic of a much larger problem that I will leave for another time.

I am going to swim in this story, ethically, morally and spiritually for a while and listen for a prompting. Pray for our great Nation folks. Get on your knees and cry out to God that we are still here. Let God know that there are those of us that have not broken our covenant with him.

Before we jump to the article I want to tell you about a discussion I had this week with neighbors around a fire on a brisk Florida evening. We brought to the fires light the  fact that our spiritual enemy has 95 years of a head start on us all. Progressivism is evil. This was a big deal given not all neighbors have the same political philosophy as do I . And the fact that two years ago they would have hushed me up and talked of the upcoming playoff games. Of which I am happy to say no discussion thereof took place that night. Yet we agreed upon the threat and power progressivism is exerting over our families.

What came from the discussion for me was this. To win, each man must act individually as an individual doing what he can individually accomplish to awaken others, defeat the sprit of progressivism and restore freedom. And as individuals we will create a great individual collective, not a collective of individuals. This has power. While mental zombie drones walk about an army of God fearing, awake, freedom loving men must walk among them and spread the fire of Liberty.

I will be an individual. I will speak with honesty, truth and passion. I will let my message be heard. I will try not to be cruel or condescending in my tone or message. I am going to be a teacher. Lead with ideas. Lead with solutions. Lead with spirit filled heart. Stay true to the constitution. Stay true to God. Stay true to myself and I as a man walking among other men will in the end overcome all that try’s to oppress us.

One last note. My wife and I discussed this as well. I ended here with our conversation. “How many church pulpits today will preach scripture of “honor thy mother and thy father” while our nation crumbles and the people in the pews sense an impending doom? How many preachers will speak to the reality of what is today and what is tearing this great nation apart one cultural and spiritual stitch at a time. Ask your preacher, priest or Rabbi why they do not do more from their position to promote America and the rebirth of Liberty in men’s hearts. If they tell you it is because they fear losing a tax status, leave the church or find a new teacher. If they tell you they do not see it, educate them. We need a great spiritual reawakening in this country and it has to begin in our heart so we may light the fire in others.

God bless us all. And to all that read this, I will pray for your strength to be an individual and to walk as a man who knows his charge.

Sacred Fire of Liberty

Vast Stretches Of Impoverished Appalachia Look Like They Have Been Through A War

If you want to get an idea of where the rest of America is heading, just take a trip through the western half of West Virginia and the eastern half of Kentucky some time. Once you leave the main highways, you will rapidly encounter poverty on a level that is absolutely staggering. Overall, about 15 percent of the entire nation is under the poverty line, but in some areas of eastern Kentucky, more than 40 percent of the population is living in poverty. Most of the people would work if they could. Over the past couple of decades, locals have witnessed businesses and industries leave the region at a steady pace. When another factory or business shuts down, many of the unemployed do not even realize that their jobs have been shipped overseas. Coal mining still produces jobs that pay a decent wage, but Barack Obama is doing his very best to kill off that entire industry. After decades of decline, vast stretches of impoverished Appalachia look like they have been through a war. Those living in the area know that things are not good, but they just try to do the best that they can with what they have.

In previous articles about areas of the country that are economically depressed, I have typically focused on large cities such as Detroit or Camden, New Jersey. But the economic suffering that is taking place in rural communities in the heartland of America is just as tragic. We just don’t hear about it as much.

Most of those that live in the heart of Appalachia are really good “salt of the earth” people that just want to work hard and do what is right for their families. But after decades of increasing poverty, the entire region has been transformed into an economic nightmare that never seems to end. The following is a description of what life is like in Appalachia today that comes from a recent article by Kevin D. Williamson…

Thinking about the future here and its bleak prospects is not much fun at all, so instead of too much black-minded introspection you have the pills and the dope, the morning beers, the endless scratch-off lotto cards, healing meetings up on the hill, the federally funded ritual of trading cases of food-stamp Pepsi for packs of Kentucky’s Best cigarettes and good old hard currency, tall piles of gas-station nachos, the occasional blast of meth, Narcotics Anonymous meetings, petty crime, the draw, the recreational making and surgical unmaking of teenaged mothers, and death: Life expectancies are short — the typical man here dies well over a decade earlier than does a man in Fairfax County, Va. — and they are getting shorter, women’s life expectancy having declined by nearly 1.1 percent from 1987 to 2007.

In these kinds of conditions, people do whatever they have to do just to survive. With so much poverty around, serving those on food stamps has become an important part of the local economy. In fact, cases of soda purchased with food stamps have become a form of “alternative currency” in the region. In his article, Williamson described how this works…

It works like this: Once a month, the debit-card accounts of those receiving what we still call food stamps are credited with a few hundred dollars — about $500 for a family of four, on average — which are immediately converted into a unit of exchange, in this case cases of soda. On the day when accounts are credited, local establishments accepting EBT cards — and all across the Big White Ghetto, “We Accept Food Stamps” is the new E pluribus unum – are swamped with locals using their public benefits to buy cases and cases — reports put the number at 30 to 40 cases for some buyers — of soda. Those cases of soda then either go on to another retailer, who buys them at 50 cents on the dollar, in effect laundering those $500 in monthly benefits into $250 in cash — a considerably worse rate than your typical organized-crime money launderer offers — or else they go into the local black-market economy, where they can be used as currency in such ventures as the dealing of unauthorized prescription painkillers — by “pillbillies,” as they are known at the sympathetic establishments in Florida that do so much business with Kentucky and West Virginia that the relevant interstate bus service is nicknamed the “OxyContin Express.” A woman who is intimately familiar with the local drug economy suggests that the exchange rate between sexual favors and cases of pop — some dealers will accept either — is about 1:1, meaning that the value of a woman in the local prescription-drug economy is about $12.99 at Walmart prices

I would encourage everyone to read the rest of Williamson’s excellent article. You can find the entire article right here.

In Appalachia, the abuse of alcohol, meth and other legal and illegal drugs is significantly higher than in the U.S. population as a whole. In a desperate attempt to deal with the pain of their lives, many people living in the region are looking for anything that will allow them to “escape” for a little while. The following is an excerpt from an excellent article by Chris Hedges which describes what life is like in the little town of Gary, West Virginia at this point…

Joe and I are sitting in the Tug River Health Clinic in Gary with a registered nurse who does not want her name used. The clinic handles federal and state black lung applications. It runs a program for those addicted to prescription pills. It also handles what in the local vernacular is known as “the crazy check” — payments obtained for mental illness from Medicaid or SSI — a vital source of income for those whose five years of welfare payments have run out. Doctors willing to diagnose a patient as mentally ill are important to economic survival.

“They come in and want to be diagnosed as soon as they can for the crazy check,” the nurse says. “They will insist to us they are crazy. They will tell us, ‘I know I’m not right.’ People here are very resigned. They will avoid working by being diagnosed as crazy.”

The reliance on government checks, and a vast array of painkillers and opiates, has turned towns like Gary into modern opium dens. The painkillers OxyContin, fentanyl — 80 times stronger than morphine — Lortab, as well as a wide variety of anti-anxiety medications such as Xanax, are widely abused. Many top off their daily cocktail of painkillers at night with sleeping pills and muscle relaxants. And for fun, addicts, especially the young, hold “pharm parties,” in which they combine their pills in a bowl, scoop out handfuls of medication, swallow them, and wait to feel the result.

Of course this kind of thing is not just happening in the heart of Appalachia. All over the country there are rural communities that are economically depressed. In fact, according to the Wall Street Journal, economic activity in about half of the counties in the entire nation is still below pre-recession levels…

About half of the nation’s 3,069 county economies are still short of their prerecession economic output, reflecting the uneven economic recovery, according to a new report from the National Association of Counties.

So what are our “leaders” doing to fix this?

Well, they plan to ship millions more of our good jobs overseas.

Unfortunately, I am not kidding.

Republicans in the House of Representatives are introducing “fast track” trade promotion authority legislation that will pave the way for rapid approval of the secret trade treaty that Barack Obama has been negotiating. The following is how I described this insidious treaty in a previous article…

Did you know that the Obama administration is negotiating a super secret “trade agreement” that is so sensitive that he isn’t even allowing members of Congress to see it? The Trans-Pacific Partnership is being called the “NAFTA of the Pacific” and “NAFTA on steroids”, but the truth is that it is so much more than just a trade agreement. This treaty has 29 chapters, but only 5 of them have to do with trade. Most Americans don’t realize this, but this treaty will fundamentally change our laws regarding Internet freedom, health care, the trading of derivatives, copyright issues, food safety, environmental standards, civil liberties and so much more. It will also merge the United States far more deeply into the emerging one world economic system.

Once again, our politicians are betraying the American people and millions of jobs will be lost as a result.

Not that the economy needs another reason to go downhill. The truth is that our economic foundations have already been rotting away for quite some time.

But now the ongoing economic collapse seems to be picking up steam again. For example, the Baltic Dry Index (a very important indicator of global economic activity) is collapsing at a rate not seen since the great financial crash of 2008…

Despite ‘blaming’ the drop in the cost of dry bulk shipping on Colombian coal restrictions, it seems increasingly clear that the 40% collapse in the Baltic Dry Index since the start of the year is more than just that. While this is the worst start to a year in over 30 years, the scale of this meltdown is only matched by the total devastation that occurred in Q3 2008. Of course, the mainstream media will continue to ignore this dour index until it decides to rise once again, but for now, 9 days in a row of plunging prices is yet another canary in the global trade coalmine and suggests what inventory stacking that occurred in Q3/4 2013 is anything but sustained.

Soon economic conditions will get even worse for Appalachia and for the rest of the country. The consequences of decades of very foolish decisions are rapidly catching up with us, and millions upon millions of Americans are going to experience immense economic pain during the years to come.

Self Imposed Labels

In a previous post the following question was raised;

‘……So the question I then must next ask myself is whether I allow myself to have a self-imposed label or conscribe to a banner of beliefs. That is way too much for the few remaining brain cells I have firing at the moment!’

I have since reclaimed some brain cells and am going to walk down that path.book

Honesty leads to truth and truth fosters trust. Trust leads to solid relationships and credibility. Honesty, if a man is prone to such, defines his behavior which in turn is reflected in his character.

Conversely, Dishonesty fosters lies which create distrust. Distrust lends to short-term or no relationships. Dishonesty defines a man’s behavior which in turn is reflected in his character.

That is not to say that a man who lies is dishonest with himself. A man who is honest with himself and knows that something is wrong or inaccurate but decides to portray it dishonestly is still fostering distrust and is outwardly lying. It is not enough that he is simply honest with himself. It is also imperative that he is honest with others.

Further, if he is honest with himself and he evaluates his ‘involvements’ based on honesty then it is fair to say that he is known by the company that he keeps.  Meaning that if he is a willing member of a group with a defined mission and he has honestly evaluated the mission as well as the record and the outcomes of the group, then he is allowing the label of the group to be placed upon him if he freely subscribes to the mission.

It is imperative for the preservation of a man’s character that he reevaluate his associations, with some frequency, to insure the credibility of the trust and the relationship he has freely entered into.

This principle also applies to personal relationships. While individuals do not have mission statements that they publish, they do have a reputation. It is that reputation that implies a mission.

Let’s look first at self-imposed labels. Because I have asked the question of myself I will answer for myself on this matter. Let me start with the label of farmer because it is one that I have considered. I grow my own food. I am eighty or so percent self-sufficient. If I was to cut out certain modern condiments I would probably be closer to ninety percent. I raise my own meat, produce my own dairy and grow my own fruits and vegetables. I create wine from my produce and have herbs for medicinal and culinary purposes too. So, am I in the classical sense a farmer? I would say no more than I am a rancher because I raise cattle. I am no more a farmer than I am a dairy rancher either. I have chosen a label to describe the effort as a “homesteader”.

Is the distinction really that important? Is the difference between the two so esoteric that it really matters? I would argue that based upon the idea that a man’s character defines him that it does matter.

Here is another arena that labels play a distinct role in perception of character, religion.  My parents baptized me in the Catholic faith. I voluntarily was baptized in the Baptist faith and then the Pentecostal faith all at a very early time in my life. Now I conscribe to the banner of Judeo-Christian doctrine. I am not simply a Christian of New Testament doctrine. I am also a Judeo follower of Old Testament doctrine. Therefore I consider myself to be a Judeo Christian. I by no means am a self-described expert of either.

I also have allowed the adoption of the label Republican. I serve in an elected capacity as a party official for a State Party apparatus. In doing this I have allowed myself to be seen from the outside through the eyes of the actions of the party and those who represent it.

As I said prior, reevaluation of ones associations must take frequent and honest reexamination to insure the reliable integrity of ones participation in those associations. I approach my affiliation with the party with an understanding that I will make it out the other side with my soul intact and that I will not compromise the truth for self-gain.

When I see things within the party that are contrary to honesty, truth and natural law, I stand to expose them and proclaim that they have no place in the association. When I see things that are portrayed outwardly as party belief that are contrary to such, I work to expose those as well. Common Core is such an example.

The political label is the one that has the most impact for me upon the idea of allowing labels to be placed on us. When a brand is tarnished and the outward character of an association does not match its mission, the character of that association is brought into question. The outward character of that association and a man’s free choice to remain a part is reflected in his character.  So should a man leave the association because the association has lost a moral compass or has been directed and used for a purpose other than its mission?

I have wrestled with the question. When I became a part of the political party, I did so because of the party’s belief system. There are clear differences in political affiliation. They are even more polarized today than in the past. So, if a man is to be involved in the process of the government that creates or deters his freedom, then he should do so in a way he feels most aligns with his belief system.

I believe that at a place in time the Republican Party best reflected my governable beliefs. It is also my belief that the party of which I belong has along the way been hijacked. I also honestly believe that the Democratic Party and other factional offshoots of both have been hijacked as well. They have been hijacked by Progressives. Progressivism is a stark contrast to my beliefs. This is not to say that there are not still strong principled constitutionally abiding persons in either party. It is to say that the outright assault on the political party’s is an effort of Progressives to dismantle the American way of life. They have done so by grabbing the wheel and locomotion of the political system and have molded it to meet their goal of political rule and implementation of Progressive Governance.

That being said, I cannot sit by and allow for the destruction. I have made a personal choice to expose and combat this parasite with extreme prejudice. I know that peers in the Democratic Party are doing the same.

So, in allowing myself to have the Republican label placed upon my character, I allow for an outward perception that is generated by the voice, action and behavior of the party, even if it conflicts with my belief structure. I have made this decision freely. For that choice I know  I will find opposition from without and from within. In my belief structure however I find that I must act against this progressive assault and feel as if there is an obligation to do so.

I am not sure that a man can go through life with any effectiveness towards growth without accumulating labels. It is those labels that man has willingly or through his actions placed upon himself that will influence his outcomes. Even a man who sits idle and is passive still acquires a label even though it may not be self-imposed.

As a man of honest foundation I use the truth as my light and faith as my sword in this battle.

There is a lesson from this that is to be learned. Do not judge a book by its cover. One must read it to determine its content.  If a man was to read you, what does your content between the covers say about who you are?

Common Core vs. The Republic

This is an open letter to my colleagues and peers on the State Committee of the Republican Party of Florida.

2 January 2014

To my fellow RPOF Committee members:

In advance of our Annual meeting I want to lend the following for your consideration.

Common Core and the Republic

Let me start with the most basic of definitions that are accepted in practice by all. They come from the dictionary. That way we can establish a “common ground” on which to begin this discussion. Let’s look at the two definitions and then extrapolate their meaning when combined.

From Merriam-Webster:

com·mon

Adjective \ˈkä-mən\

  1. belonging to or shared by two or more people or groups

core

Noun, often attributive \ˈkȯr\

  1. a central and often foundational part usually distinct from the enveloping part by a difference in nature
  2. an arrangement of a course of studies that combines under basic topics material from subjects conventionally separated and aims to provide a common background for all students
  3. the inmost or most intimate part

We could safely say that Common Core is a shared prearrangement of course studies. Or, we could say, that Common Core is an inmost or intimate collective foundation of teaching guidelines.  Or we could just look at the definition above and accept that it is an arrangement of a course of studies that combines under basic topics material from subjects conventionally separated and aims to provide a common background for all students

In other words, “common core” is a centralized regulatory bureaucracy of fundamental teaching requirements. “Common core” is much like the “Affordable Care Act”; both are federally centralized programs that create regulatory conditions the rest of us have to meet.

While proponents will say it is not a federal program, it is. The Common Core testing consortia funded by the US Department of Education (by “shovel ready” stimulus money) are developing the assessments for Common Core, which will drive classroom instruction.

We all know teachers are forced to teach to the test because assessments are intended to reflect their performance. States would be wise to withdraw from the Smarter Balanced and PARCC testing consortium if they don’t want to incur huge expense and if they want to protect personal student level data. The consortia’s contract with the feds requires them to provide student level data to the federal government.  It is to the credit of our Governor that we have done so in Florida. This is a good first step.

Here in lies the dilemma

Today we find ourselves in a place that opponents continue to argue against the theme of a “common core” as a dangerous ideological machine that has potential for indoctrination.

Proponents continue to argue that it is not a centralized or collective way of teaching all of the children in this country the same things in the same way.

So who is correct?

If these are to be the foundations of the argument then, to this end, there will be no resolve. It is not possible to argue the lack of merit of “common core” when proponents use emotion and subjective speech to explain it. Proponents do not have an honest foundation for their arguments and base their positions on semantics.

They attempt to decry the centralization by suggesting that testing standards do not equate to curriculum. Yet in order for a curriculum to achieve testing standards the curriculum must be tied back to the standard in order to succeed. For example, if a common or centralized standard mandates that “2+2 = 5”, then in order for my curriculum to be correct, I must teach the same.

Proponents will tell you that it is the nation’s governors and education commissioners, through their representative organizations the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) that led the development of the Common Core State Standards and continue to lead the initiative.

When in reality they are a smoke screen or cover. The Common Core testing consortia funded by the US Department of Education are developing the assessments for Common Core, which will drive classroom instruction.

It seems that reality has been turned upside down and inside out. When we as free thinking rational American adults cannot look at this for what it is and express concern without being chided and labeled as extremists we have a problem.

The problem my friend is apparent. It is philosophic. It is ideological. It is Liberty vs. Progressivism.

When discussing “common core” forget about the techniques and intimate delivery of the collectivist goal of “common core”. You will be lost in an esoteric battle of words. It is a battle that has been well designed and thought out by the progressive movement. What is at stake is the core philosophy of centralized education and its conflict with the American way of life and governance. That is the issue.

The argument to be made against this ideological monster is the Constitution. First, I would challenge any proponent to show me where there is Constitutional authority for this draconian mandate. What Amendment to the Constitution expresses given authority to the Federal Government for the management of our children’s education? This is not a rhetorical question. It is a foundational one. The same foundation we declared to be sovereign. The same that many of us swore to uphold.

Constitutional authority is not the same as “Regulatory Over-reach”.  It is that those powers not granted the Federal Government by the Constitution of the United States are then relegated to the States themselves. Not an agency or panel of experts.

Finding a way to establish an unconstitutional mandate through piecing together bait and switch facades does not make it proper or right.

Proponents will argue that a States acceptance of the program is proof that the tenth amendment is not being violated. They will say that the Governors and their people are driving it. However, it is important to understand the “common core” is a fiduciary requirement and outcome from previous Federal carrots eaten whole by the States. These are TARP and Race to the Top. The full extent of the contract known as “common core” was not available at the time of signature on these two agreements.

If the outcomes from previous federal dollar acceptance are not met then there is a financial penalty to the State. It is so great that most States are not willing or even able to take the step to reject it. So, the tenth Amendment argument to me is a thin one and was foreseen and manipulated by gamesmanship and near extortion by the proponents. “Common core” did not just fall off of a book shelf or spawn itself in whole from a conclave of Governors. It was designed and war boarded with extreme precision and progressive intent. The players have been lead down a path to ruin by deceit and greed.

From Whitehouse.gov:

“Race to the Top marks a historic moment in American education. This initiative offers bold incentives to states willing to spur systemic reform to improve teaching and learning in America’s schools. Race to the Top has ushered in significant change in our education system, particularly in raising standards and aligning policies and structures to the goal of college and career readiness. Race to the Top has helped drive states nationwide to pursue higher standards, improve teacher effectiveness, use data effectively in the classroom, and adopt new strategies to help struggling schools. “

The movement essentially bribed states into implementation via ‘Race to the Top,’ offering $4.35 billion taxpayer dollars to participating states.  And much like No Child Left Behind, the program promises national testing and a one-size-fits-all education, because hey, it worked so well the first time.

If nothing else, these standards are a glowing conflict of capital interest and they lack the research they allegedly received.

If we cede this over-reach to the Progressive idealists we have just set new precedent that will allow for a less progressive and more accelerated implementation of federally centralized programs and it will continue to consume your very freedom.

No, I say to you that the argument for this great body known as the Republican Party of Florida needs to be based on “Common Sense” and not on “Common Core”. Let the proponents explain to our great body how federally mandated centralized testing, measuring and outside corporate involvement in our children’s education is anything that resembles our principles as Republicans and Americans.

One of the top cheerleaders for “common core” is Florida’s former Governor Jeb Bush. It cannot be denied honestly that Mr. Bush was also the top cheerleader and architect for FCAT. FCAT is a system that evidently failed. In Mr. Bush’s own words;

“The Common Core State Standards are higher; they’re fewer; they require more critical thinking skills,” Bush said, “and they will, unfortunately, at the beginning, they will probably show that close to two-thirds of our children are not college and career ready.”

Mr. Bush isn’t worried that Common Core hasn’t been field tested, and he trusts experts who say Common Core more closely resembles international standards.

So am I to then surmise that the architect and proponent for FCAT is saying it was a failure therefore we should trust him on the new standards. If he was unable to orchestrate a successful State level centralized educational system to effectively train and teach our children, what makes you think he has the answer for a national approach?

Further, am I to understand we are now measuring ourselves on International Standards instead of being exceptional at home? Since when do we as Americans not have the rest of the world’s nation’s measuring against our achievement?  Why should we bring ourselves down to their standards? We are America. We should be working towards better than International standards for ourselves. We are exceptional when we try.

We were asked as good Republicans to cover Mr. Bush’s back on FCAT and support him while he was Governor. I for one have learned my lesson. I will not cover your six on this one sir. What is wrong for America is wrong, regardless of party affiliation.

The answer to all of this is simple. Scrap “common core” and return the teaching to the local level. But, do we as an institution and government have the will to do what is right? Do we have a structure and a system of which we are a part that is honest enough to take a stand for what is right?

The question should not be on the merit of the detail of “common core”. The question should be asked as to the health of our political systems and the state of our Republic that would allow for this idea to permeate our society and corrupt our culture. It should be asked if we have the will to defend our way of life.

There is a time to say NO and the time to do so is before your ability to say so is gone. Are we here to lead or are we here to be useful pawns in orchestrating the will of but a few that think they know better on how to serve the many?

What say you?
