In a previous post the following question was raised;

‘……So the question I then must next ask myself is whether I allow myself to have a self-imposed label or conscribe to a banner of beliefs. That is way too much for the few remaining brain cells I have firing at the moment!’

I have since reclaimed some brain cells and am going to walk down that path.book

Honesty leads to truth and truth fosters trust. Trust leads to solid relationships and credibility. Honesty, if a man is prone to such, defines his behavior which in turn is reflected in his character.

Conversely, Dishonesty fosters lies which create distrust. Distrust lends to short-term or no relationships. Dishonesty defines a man’s behavior which in turn is reflected in his character.

That is not to say that a man who lies is dishonest with himself. A man who is honest with himself and knows that something is wrong or inaccurate but decides to portray it dishonestly is still fostering distrust and is outwardly lying. It is not enough that he is simply honest with himself. It is also imperative that he is honest with others.

Further, if he is honest with himself and he evaluates his ‘involvements’ based on honesty then it is fair to say that he is known by the company that he keeps.  Meaning that if he is a willing member of a group with a defined mission and he has honestly evaluated the mission as well as the record and the outcomes of the group, then he is allowing the label of the group to be placed upon him if he freely subscribes to the mission.

It is imperative for the preservation of a man’s character that he reevaluate his associations, with some frequency, to insure the credibility of the trust and the relationship he has freely entered into.

This principle also applies to personal relationships. While individuals do not have mission statements that they publish, they do have a reputation. It is that reputation that implies a mission.

Let’s look first at self-imposed labels. Because I have asked the question of myself I will answer for myself on this matter. Let me start with the label of farmer because it is one that I have considered. I grow my own food. I am eighty or so percent self-sufficient. If I was to cut out certain modern condiments I would probably be closer to ninety percent. I raise my own meat, produce my own dairy and grow my own fruits and vegetables. I create wine from my produce and have herbs for medicinal and culinary purposes too. So, am I in the classical sense a farmer? I would say no more than I am a rancher because I raise cattle. I am no more a farmer than I am a dairy rancher either. I have chosen a label to describe the effort as a “homesteader”.

Is the distinction really that important? Is the difference between the two so esoteric that it really matters? I would argue that based upon the idea that a man’s character defines him that it does matter.

Here is another arena that labels play a distinct role in perception of character, religion.  My parents baptized me in the Catholic faith. I voluntarily was baptized in the Baptist faith and then the Pentecostal faith all at a very early time in my life. Now I conscribe to the banner of Judeo-Christian doctrine. I am not simply a Christian of New Testament doctrine. I am also a Judeo follower of Old Testament doctrine. Therefore I consider myself to be a Judeo Christian. I by no means am a self-described expert of either.

I also have allowed the adoption of the label Republican. I serve in an elected capacity as a party official for a State Party apparatus. In doing this I have allowed myself to be seen from the outside through the eyes of the actions of the party and those who represent it.

As I said prior, reevaluation of ones associations must take frequent and honest reexamination to insure the reliable integrity of ones participation in those associations. I approach my affiliation with the party with an understanding that I will make it out the other side with my soul intact and that I will not compromise the truth for self-gain.

When I see things within the party that are contrary to honesty, truth and natural law, I stand to expose them and proclaim that they have no place in the association. When I see things that are portrayed outwardly as party belief that are contrary to such, I work to expose those as well. Common Core is such an example.

The political label is the one that has the most impact for me upon the idea of allowing labels to be placed on us. When a brand is tarnished and the outward character of an association does not match its mission, the character of that association is brought into question. The outward character of that association and a man’s free choice to remain a part is reflected in his character.  So should a man leave the association because the association has lost a moral compass or has been directed and used for a purpose other than its mission?

I have wrestled with the question. When I became a part of the political party, I did so because of the party’s belief system. There are clear differences in political affiliation. They are even more polarized today than in the past. So, if a man is to be involved in the process of the government that creates or deters his freedom, then he should do so in a way he feels most aligns with his belief system.

I believe that at a place in time the Republican Party best reflected my governable beliefs. It is also my belief that the party of which I belong has along the way been hijacked. I also honestly believe that the Democratic Party and other factional offshoots of both have been hijacked as well. They have been hijacked by Progressives. Progressivism is a stark contrast to my beliefs. This is not to say that there are not still strong principled constitutionally abiding persons in either party. It is to say that the outright assault on the political party’s is an effort of Progressives to dismantle the American way of life. They have done so by grabbing the wheel and locomotion of the political system and have molded it to meet their goal of political rule and implementation of Progressive Governance.

That being said, I cannot sit by and allow for the destruction. I have made a personal choice to expose and combat this parasite with extreme prejudice. I know that peers in the Democratic Party are doing the same.

So, in allowing myself to have the Republican label placed upon my character, I allow for an outward perception that is generated by the voice, action and behavior of the party, even if it conflicts with my belief structure. I have made this decision freely. For that choice I know  I will find opposition from without and from within. In my belief structure however I find that I must act against this progressive assault and feel as if there is an obligation to do so.

I am not sure that a man can go through life with any effectiveness towards growth without accumulating labels. It is those labels that man has willingly or through his actions placed upon himself that will influence his outcomes. Even a man who sits idle and is passive still acquires a label even though it may not be self-imposed.

As a man of honest foundation I use the truth as my light and faith as my sword in this battle.

There is a lesson from this that is to be learned. Do not judge a book by its cover. One must read it to determine its content.  If a man was to read you, what does your content between the covers say about who you are?

This is an open letter to my colleagues and peers on the State Committee of the Republican Party of Florida.

2 January 2014

To my fellow RPOF Committee members:

In advance of our Annual meeting I want to lend the following for your consideration.

Common Core and the Republic

Let me start with the most basic of definitions that are accepted in practice by all. They come from the dictionary. That way we can establish a “common ground” on which to begin this discussion. Let’s look at the two definitions and then extrapolate their meaning when combined.

From Merriam-Webster:

com·mon

Adjective \ˈkä-mən\

  1. belonging to or shared by two or more people or groups

core

Noun, often attributive \ˈkȯr\

  1. a central and often foundational part usually distinct from the enveloping part by a difference in nature
  2. an arrangement of a course of studies that combines under basic topics material from subjects conventionally separated and aims to provide a common background for all students
  3. the inmost or most intimate part

We could safely say that Common Core is a shared prearrangement of course studies. Or, we could say, that Common Core is an inmost or intimate collective foundation of teaching guidelines.  Or we could just look at the definition above and accept that it is an arrangement of a course of studies that combines under basic topics material from subjects conventionally separated and aims to provide a common background for all students

In other words, “common core” is a centralized regulatory bureaucracy of fundamental teaching requirements. “Common core” is much like the “Affordable Care Act”; both are federally centralized programs that create regulatory conditions the rest of us have to meet.

While proponents will say it is not a federal program, it is. The Common Core testing consortia funded by the US Department of Education (by “shovel ready” stimulus money) are developing the assessments for Common Core, which will drive classroom instruction.

We all know teachers are forced to teach to the test because assessments are intended to reflect their performance. States would be wise to withdraw from the Smarter Balanced and PARCC testing consortium if they don’t want to incur huge expense and if they want to protect personal student level data. The consortia’s contract with the feds requires them to provide student level data to the federal government.  It is to the credit of our Governor that we have done so in Florida. This is a good first step.

Here in lies the dilemma

Today we find ourselves in a place that opponents continue to argue against the theme of a “common core” as a dangerous ideological machine that has potential for indoctrination.

Proponents continue to argue that it is not a centralized or collective way of teaching all of the children in this country the same things in the same way.

So who is correct?

If these are to be the foundations of the argument then, to this end, there will be no resolve. It is not possible to argue the lack of merit of “common core” when proponents use emotion and subjective speech to explain it. Proponents do not have an honest foundation for their arguments and base their positions on semantics.

They attempt to decry the centralization by suggesting that testing standards do not equate to curriculum. Yet in order for a curriculum to achieve testing standards the curriculum must be tied back to the standard in order to succeed. For example, if a common or centralized standard mandates that “2+2 = 5”, then in order for my curriculum to be correct, I must teach the same.

Proponents will tell you that it is the nation’s governors and education commissioners, through their representative organizations the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) that led the development of the Common Core State Standards and continue to lead the initiative.

When in reality they are a smoke screen or cover. The Common Core testing consortia funded by the US Department of Education are developing the assessments for Common Core, which will drive classroom instruction.

It seems that reality has been turned upside down and inside out. When we as free thinking rational American adults cannot look at this for what it is and express concern without being chided and labeled as extremists we have a problem.

The problem my friend is apparent. It is philosophic. It is ideological. It is Liberty vs. Progressivism.

When discussing “common core” forget about the techniques and intimate delivery of the collectivist goal of “common core”. You will be lost in an esoteric battle of words. It is a battle that has been well designed and thought out by the progressive movement. What is at stake is the core philosophy of centralized education and its conflict with the American way of life and governance. That is the issue.

The argument to be made against this ideological monster is the Constitution. First, I would challenge any proponent to show me where there is Constitutional authority for this draconian mandate. What Amendment to the Constitution expresses given authority to the Federal Government for the management of our children’s education? This is not a rhetorical question. It is a foundational one. The same foundation we declared to be sovereign. The same that many of us swore to uphold.

Constitutional authority is not the same as “Regulatory Over-reach”.  It is that those powers not granted the Federal Government by the Constitution of the United States are then relegated to the States themselves. Not an agency or panel of experts.

Finding a way to establish an unconstitutional mandate through piecing together bait and switch facades does not make it proper or right.

Proponents will argue that a States acceptance of the program is proof that the tenth amendment is not being violated. They will say that the Governors and their people are driving it. However, it is important to understand the “common core” is a fiduciary requirement and outcome from previous Federal carrots eaten whole by the States. These are TARP and Race to the Top. The full extent of the contract known as “common core” was not available at the time of signature on these two agreements.

If the outcomes from previous federal dollar acceptance are not met then there is a financial penalty to the State. It is so great that most States are not willing or even able to take the step to reject it. So, the tenth Amendment argument to me is a thin one and was foreseen and manipulated by gamesmanship and near extortion by the proponents. “Common core” did not just fall off of a book shelf or spawn itself in whole from a conclave of Governors. It was designed and war boarded with extreme precision and progressive intent. The players have been lead down a path to ruin by deceit and greed.

From Whitehouse.gov:

“Race to the Top marks a historic moment in American education. This initiative offers bold incentives to states willing to spur systemic reform to improve teaching and learning in America’s schools. Race to the Top has ushered in significant change in our education system, particularly in raising standards and aligning policies and structures to the goal of college and career readiness. Race to the Top has helped drive states nationwide to pursue higher standards, improve teacher effectiveness, use data effectively in the classroom, and adopt new strategies to help struggling schools. “

The movement essentially bribed states into implementation via ‘Race to the Top,’ offering $4.35 billion taxpayer dollars to participating states.  And much like No Child Left Behind, the program promises national testing and a one-size-fits-all education, because hey, it worked so well the first time.

If nothing else, these standards are a glowing conflict of capital interest and they lack the research they allegedly received.

If we cede this over-reach to the Progressive idealists we have just set new precedent that will allow for a less progressive and more accelerated implementation of federally centralized programs and it will continue to consume your very freedom.

No, I say to you that the argument for this great body known as the Republican Party of Florida needs to be based on “Common Sense” and not on “Common Core”. Let the proponents explain to our great body how federally mandated centralized testing, measuring and outside corporate involvement in our children’s education is anything that resembles our principles as Republicans and Americans.

One of the top cheerleaders for “common core” is Florida’s former Governor Jeb Bush. It cannot be denied honestly that Mr. Bush was also the top cheerleader and architect for FCAT. FCAT is a system that evidently failed. In Mr. Bush’s own words;

“The Common Core State Standards are higher; they’re fewer; they require more critical thinking skills,” Bush said, “and they will, unfortunately, at the beginning, they will probably show that close to two-thirds of our children are not college and career ready.”

Mr. Bush isn’t worried that Common Core hasn’t been field tested, and he trusts experts who say Common Core more closely resembles international standards.

So am I to then surmise that the architect and proponent for FCAT is saying it was a failure therefore we should trust him on the new standards. If he was unable to orchestrate a successful State level centralized educational system to effectively train and teach our children, what makes you think he has the answer for a national approach?

Further, am I to understand we are now measuring ourselves on International Standards instead of being exceptional at home? Since when do we as Americans not have the rest of the world’s nation’s measuring against our achievement?  Why should we bring ourselves down to their standards? We are America. We should be working towards better than International standards for ourselves. We are exceptional when we try.

We were asked as good Republicans to cover Mr. Bush’s back on FCAT and support him while he was Governor. I for one have learned my lesson. I will not cover your six on this one sir. What is wrong for America is wrong, regardless of party affiliation.

The answer to all of this is simple. Scrap “common core” and return the teaching to the local level. But, do we as an institution and government have the will to do what is right? Do we have a structure and a system of which we are a part that is honest enough to take a stand for what is right?

The question should not be on the merit of the detail of “common core”. The question should be asked as to the health of our political systems and the state of our Republic that would allow for this idea to permeate our society and corrupt our culture. It should be asked if we have the will to defend our way of life.

There is a time to say NO and the time to do so is before your ability to say so is gone. Are we here to lead or are we here to be useful pawns in orchestrating the will of but a few that think they know better on how to serve the many?

What say you?

THE 10 STEPS TO ABSOLUTE POWER – REVOLUTION IN AMERICA

http://www.autentico.org/oa09965.php

by Elias Seife

“The whole theory behind socialism and communism is failure. In order to install socialism there must be failure. The plan is to fail.”

“People in Marxist societies get either mysteriously sick or incredibly wealthy with simultaneous ‘change of heart’ all the time.”

There are people in this country that know exactly what the intentions of this administration are with regards to the path it is leading this country. The road-plan is very predictable and it has been done several times before, most recently in Venezuela.

1. The amount of debt that our government is incurring will inevitably lead to bankruptcy, insolvency and the demise of private business as we know it. The administration and the congressional majority know this very well.

2. This of course will lead to social upheaval, chaos, violence, gun control and repression by government authorities. Critics of the government or government actions will be deemed to be racists, elitists, extremists or dangerous fanatics. They will be vilified and accused of inciting violence. At some point the government will ask Congress to enact legislation regulating criticism and create penalties accordingly. This will create direct and indirect intimidation.

3. In the end the citizens of this country will be at the mercy of our government for jobs and resources in general by an all powerful federal government. As a good Marxist, the President’s ready-answer to the current and future failures, which are really successes to him and like-minded individuals, is that these failures are only a derivative of errors before his time, things beyond his control, or are someone else’s fault.

4. The President doesn’t worry about who would get credit for successes because the whole theory behind socialism and communism is failure. In order to install socialism there must be failure. The plan is to fail. In a prosperous society people have the ability to fight back and rebuke injustice. When Marxists arrive to power the plan is to fail and to destroy the institutions that secure the public welfare and freedoms; Marxists know that in order to resist the people must have resources. The Jobless, homeless, poor and hungry people make for a very easy opposition, especially if they are controlled by heavily-funded governmental community organizations that are really fronts to secure the Marxist revolution. I heard Candidate Obama’s Colorado speech on July 2008 when he proposed a National Civilian Security Force more powerful and better funded than the US military. I knew what that meant.

5. Once private business and financial institutions crumble the federal government will make and control all aspects of our economy and hence our daily lives. As such it will decide the peoples salaries, benefits, and positions of power, if any. Additionally, for the sake of cutting costs essential products and services will be priced by the federal government. Our free market economy, which is crucial to securing our basic individual freedoms, will cease to exist.

6. The press and freedom of speech is easy to control. Since private business has failed, radio stations, television stations and newspapers would be subsidized by the state and so the State employs government loyalists. There would be no need for the “Fairness Doctrine” because either it would be already in place under another name or at this point there would only be one point-of-view.

7. At this point the revolution would be almost complete. There would be still three things left to secure absolute power and they are: controlling the Supreme Court, States rights, and the U.S. Military.

8. The Supreme Court is simple enough to control. People in Marxist societies get either mysteriously sick or incredibly wealthy with simultaneous “change of heart” all the time. If for some reason 1 or 2 of the correct justices leave the bench voluntarily or involuntarily the legal framework to tyranny is secured.

9. With regards to States rights, the most logical assumption is that more than likely some states will want to secede from the Union especially the states that voted primarily for the President’s opponent in the last election. If I were thinking like a Marxist I would compare this move to the civil rights movement under President Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. I would argue that the governors and people of these states are racists, and wealthy elitists not willing to respect the new “social reality” of the country and that by seceding they are only being selfish and Un-American. Again, thinking like a Marxist I would send federal troops and/or federalize state militia in a careful reconstruction of the June 1963 confrontation in Alabama. In fact I would be studying that whole process in history now as to be more prepared when it happens.

10. The final piece would be controlling the most powerful armed institution in the world, namely the U.S. military. Legally the President is the Commander-in-Chief so it is relatively easy for him to switch commands, retire certain officers, and make tactical changes that will make mutiny less likely such as creating one centralized army which controls all of the services responding to one chain-of-command instead of the current decentralized command. Legislation will be enacted so that all military and law enforcement, federal and state, will have to complete new courses that stress the “new social reality” and their responsibility to defend the “social revolution”. At this point all weapons and/or ammunition can be controlled by the government.

This country’s people have enjoyed their individual rights and freedoms for over 200 years. Many have valiantly fought for and died for this country and many will do their utmost to not let them down. America will overcome and the good citizens of this country will preserve its greatness and its way of life for themselves and for future generations.

An open letter to the Florida House and Senate

To begin, since it is such a tin foil hat idea to some, let’s get past the argument that Common Core is somehow a conspiracy or planned implementation of a National Education Curriculum with Progressive undertones and motives. I can come over to your level for a bit to have the discussion. So let’s set the “fundamental transformation” aside for a bit. I will set my tin foil hat aside if you will open your heart for a frank discussion.

FCAT official blue logo

FCAT official blue logo (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Let’s start here. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush urged for more emphasis on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) results during his two terms in office.

But Bush isn’t mourning the end of the FCAT when a new Common Core State Standards — and tests — fully take effect in the fall of 2014.

Bush says FCAT was never meant to test whether students were ready for college or the job market. What?

“The Common Core State Standards are higher; they’re fewer; they require more critical thinking skills,” Bush said, “and they will, unfortunately, at the beginning, they will probably show that close to two-thirds of our children are not college and career ready.”

He said it, not me.

I remember a day when educational standards were set at a District level and accountability was set locally. The further we march towards centralized education or anything centralized for that matter, we move further from success and accountability. Not to mention the level of control over our lives we give that centralized source.

Ok, so Jeb knows better than all of us. Well, at least Jeb knows the right experts that know better than him and he knows better than us what is good for our kids. I guess when you are a Progressive political elite you just know better. So we should accept that argument?

So, you are still not on board? Let’s look at this one. An elected Constitutional official in the State of Florida takes an oath to uphold the Constitution of The United States of America and of Florida. Is this a formality or a personal oath sworn before God?  I took the same oath as former Army service member. I know what it meant to me.

When the Constitution is blatantly misrepresented in Common Core teaching materials and American heroes like George Washington are drawn to parallels with Castro, what is your Constitutional duty and common sense tell you then?  Does it even pique a concern?

South Carolina high school, and possibly many others, are reportedly using a history textbook that also contains a highly questionable interpretation of the Second Amendment.

Additionally, the publisher of a separate controversial advanced placement history textbook, which acts as a study guide for the advanced placement U.S. history exam and seems to diminish the Second Amendment, is directly linked to Common Core standards.

“The Second and Third Amendments — grant citizens the right to bear arms as members of a militia of citizen-soldiers and prevent the government from housing troops in private homes in peacetime,” the book’s summary reads. In a separate box on the same page it paraphrases the amendment as “the right to bear arms,” not the right to “keep” and bear arms.

I am sure I do not need to type the actual Amendment for you. I hope not anyway.

The first book, “United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination,” not only contains a controversial summary of the Second Amendment, but it also compares the “American mobs” who fought in the Revolutionary War to the “guerrilla bans that fought in such countries as Cuba in the 1950s and Vietnam in 1960s and points out that the Boston Tea Party was “far too radical” for some.

There are lists of items like the one above that relate to common core related teaching materials used and provided to the States. A simple internet search will reveal them to you.

Of course you will be determining the curriculum, as long as you find Common Core text books that meet the Common Core standard like the mentions above.

Still not there yet?  Let’s try this one. If you take a thirty thousand foot look at the machinations of Federalization, Constitutional overreach and blatant efforts to “fundamentally transform” America, how can you say that Common Core is not a major component of that Transformation? And being such, how can you think for one minute it is good?

What if we rename Common Core, Affordable Care Act? That is another great nationalized initiative. We have nationalized healthcare and can see how that is going. Now we think it is a good idea to nationalize education?

Ok, still not convinced? Most elected politicians have a higher degree of ego than most. Not bad, just a fact. So let me try to appeal to your ego. Here goes, Washington D.C. is infringing on your power. That’s right; they are trampling the 10th amendment. That is where you have your power. And they are taking another piece of it away.

The real question is, when a state leaves and goes out on its own, what kind of a product do they get by working alone? That should be apparent. They get a major challenge. They get to retain control. They can build on past success and on past failure. They can use the talent they have to build a system tailored to their State. They can be one of 50 laboratories each sharing information and each using what is best for their State. What they do not get is a centralized and mandated approach to indoctrination and Federal control over one of the most important aspects of our life, our children’s education.

I now many of you by first name and have served with some on Boards, Political Committees and non-profits. I know you are not bad people. I also know how the game is played though. This is no time to being playing that game however.

To those with a vote in the legislature I say this openly. You and you alone must reconcile your decision with your conscience and your God. Your action on this matter will be a reflection thereof.

When the day comes for your constituents to reflect on your decision, be certain that a small army of patriots will be there to remind them of your choice. That is not a threat but a promise. For those that fight to preserve our Nation and State we will be there to herald your stance. For those that settle, acquiesce or are too damn stupid to know what is going on, we will be there to make sure your constituents know that as well.

It is time to act in the interest of this Nation and our State and in the interest of our children and their children instead of your own financial and political gain.

May God Bless you. May you open your heart and mind to the reality of what is today. May God show you the path to take. And may he grant you the courage to do what needs to be done.

Yours in Service,

Eric D. Miller

Your tax dollars, military might and National reputation is on the line here. What we are doing in Syria is WRONG. A five year old can see it. Gas is not the reason. There is a bigger reason for this. Do not be distracted. Keep a wary eye and ear open.

See who the rebels are at this link –> http://nyti.ms/17QH7pl These are the people we are aiding.

I mentally staggered through the Blah Blah Blah of John Kerry yesterday as I watched him try to be big man on campus when confronted with the questions of Constitutionality. I could not get past this image and seeing him rip his medals from himself and throw them away.

And the GOP (elected) leadership – what the hell? Well kids – put your seat belts on – it is going to get bumpy

And since when is it up to us to be the Den Mother for the rest of the world? So, Muslims are killing Muslims ? Why do I have a problem with this ? And why should we intervene? It is their Civil War – let them fight it. And how is 1400 dead from gas worse than 500,000 dead by machete in Rwanda?

There is more to this than meets the eye folks – something stinks !

Common Core and the RPOF (Republican Party of Florida)

The following is a letter I received today from a dear friend and fellow patriot Marguerite Cavanaugh

Dear Republican Party Leaders of Florida:

Many of you have given me the honor and pleasure of serving with you for almost 10 years as State Committeewoman. You know I have a sense of humor, but am very serious when it comes to the future of the Sunshine State, our Nation and the Republican Party, so this is for all of you and the ones I haven’t been able to work with or know.

It has come to my attention that the Common Core standards came up as a topic, without discussion, during the conference call last week on Wednesday, and it was stated that those who oppose or have concerns about the standards, their accompanying tests and data-mining system, were “whackos” or “crazies” who need to be handled with special information from the party hierarchy or the Department of Education. Without going into the detail involving the many issues raising concerns from parents, teachers, business leaders, organizations, as well as academic, legal, and privacy experts, let me give a few reasons why, politically, that is not a wise or winning strategy for our state party, the Republican Party of Florida:

1: The Republican National Committee unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the Common Core Standards in April, 2013, including the RPOF’s highly respected members. Do we really think it wise to refer to the entire RNC and our Florida members as “whackos”? Also, I don’t think we should rile or disrespect the largest political organization of women in the nation; The National Federation of Republican Woman came out with their own resolution against the Common Core Standards.

2: The duly elected legislature of Indiana, which consists of wide majorities of Republicans voted for legislation pausing implementation of the standards and tests pending further review and public hearings; Republican governor Mike Pence signed the legislation. Are you calling elected Republicans including a sitting governor crazy? What about the Michigan legislature? Are they whackos for voting to defund the Common Core system pending further review? Or, what about Republican governor Nathan Deal of Georgia or even Democratic governor Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania, who both took executive action to pause the implementation until there could be more public input?

3: Do we really want the RPOF entertaining the attitude that the leaders and researchers of some of the most important and esteemed think tanks and policy organizations in the nation are mentally unsound because they raise questions about such a transformational education model? We are talking about Heritage, Cato, Eagle Forum, the American Principles Project, and Freedom Works, to name just a few. We need to realize that assigning those labels also applies to the members and supporters of those organizations, people who make up the heart of the Republican base. That base did not turn out in adequate numbers in the last election. Displaying such a condescending attitude to them again, will only worsen our chances of winning future elections.

4: While, as with any issue, there may be some so-called fringe elements that oppose Common Core, please remember, many of the supporters of this top-down initiative are some of the most radical leftists and would-be tyrants in our nation’s history. Does the RPOF really want to align themselves with the progressive agenda of President Barak Obama, Arne Duncan, Bill Ayers, and Linda Darling-Hammond by promoting the enlistment of our education system, and using our children as guinea pigs? Should the Republican Party of Florida, of which you are a part, continue to choose to support the intrusive Common Core data-mining collection system, as does the Obama administration, to be used on our children (And teachers) from “cradle to career?” This data will be made available to various federal government agencies, corporations, and outside researchers, soon making the NSA scandal look like a walk in the park.

5: Finally, please understand that the largest part of the growing tsunami of opposition to the Common Core system is composed of suburban moms who are learning what this is doing or will do to their children. This important block of swing voters is not amused and they will take out their ‘mama bear’ fury on those politicians of either party they see as trying to impose this boondoggle on their children. Instead of trying to portray them as nut jobs, it would behoove elected officials and the Republican Party, along with all of their appointees, to respect and address their grievances.

It has also come to my attention that the foundations started by Governor Jeb Bush, are involved in contacting, even pressuring, Republican Executive Committee (REC) chairmen to oppose/squash/suppress any anti-Common Core resolutions brought to the RECs from their membership. This is unfortunate and quite disturbing for all of the reasons I have afore mentioned, plus the following four reasons:

1: If the governor, as a Republican, believes in constitutionally limited government and local control, and the materials put out by his foundation say, “State leaders, accountable to their constituents, can withdraw their states from the standards at any time,” why are he and his organizations continuing to badger and interfere with the decisions of our Republican Executive Committees and our legislators, who wish to express their opposition to such a life-altering, astronomically costly, untested educational system?

2: Governor Bush had the full support of this county and mine as our governor, and I believe he is not a whacko or crazy for supporting this liberal agenda – just misled, in my humble opinion. The Common Core talking points are full of holes and misstatements. His efforts have been unsuccessful in the afore mentioned states. The people have spoken to their elected leaders and they are sending an entirely different message than that of the governor.

3: Some of the governor’s efforts in this area must be viewed at least somewhat skeptically, given the very large donations that his foundations received from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, whose Microsoft Corporation stands to reap billions from Common Core related testing, plus mandated educational and data-mining software. In fact, 26 of the 32 groups that opposed the Indiana legislation to pause Common Core, as well as the Bush foundations, received contributions from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Haven’t I heard many of you say, “Follow the money?”

4: Judging from the curriculum driven by Common Core Standards, (Which replaces the Sunshine State Standards) it could change the political view of Florida and the nation to a conditioned hard-left agenda, over the course of just one or two short generations. We will have produced a populace of voters who will probably have a hard time voting for Republicans or any conservatives.

The Florida State Board of Education (FLSBOE) signed the Common Core State Standards Initiative contract and took the stimulus money on behalf of the state of Florida, in 2010, for this vast, untested program. The appointed FLSBOE acted on our behalf with no public input, no discussion and no legislation. Our Florida legislators, however, are able to oust Common Core during the upcoming session with encouragement, facts and support.

Common Core is a potent issue, which, down the road, the Republican Party may very well regret having been responsible for its promotion and allowing its implementation. For the good of the Sunshine State and for the good of the Republican Party, please urge the allowance of our constitutional right of “Redress of grievance.” Please encourage the reconsideration of the tone and approach being portrayed by the party, elected Republican officials and both their appointees against its well informed voting members, constituents and citizens at large.

Thank you for your consideration.
Best Wishes,

Marguerite Cavanaugh
Former Marion County State Committeewoman

P. S. I am sure you have already, or will form a strong opinion about this issue. Please continue to do your own research, if need be, and let me know if you want to join the grassroots effort to rid Florida of Common Core. Our numbers are growing and we will stand behind all legislators who work to get the Sunshine State out of Common Core.
